Bruce Springsteen's Powerful Endorsement of President Obama

Dear Friends:
The election is coming up on all of us and we all have strong feelings about it. I’ve been getting asked a lot about where I stand, so for those who are interested, here goes.
This presidential election is different than the last one because President Obama has a four year record to run on. Last time around, he carried with him a tremendous amount of hope and expectations. Unfortunately, due to the economic chaos the previous administration left him with, and the extraordinary intensity of the opposition, it turned into a really rough ride. But through grit, determination, and focus, the President has been able to do a great many things that many of us deeply support.
Domestically, that record includes working to increase and expand employment for all, protecting our all important social safety net, passing guaranteed health care for most of our citizens, with important new protections for all of the insured, rescuing the auto industry and so many of the American jobs that go with it, protecting and enhancing the rights of women, and bringing us closer to full acceptance of our gay and lesbian brothers and sisters.
In foreign affairs, that record includes following through on the removal of troops from the misguided and deceptive war in Iraq, and vigorously pursuing our real foreign enemies, especially the killing of Osama Bin Laden.
Right now the opposition’s resort to voter suppression in so many states is not receiving as much attention as it deserves. I believe that all of us, of whatever views, should be opposing these anti-voter, anti-citizen efforts.
Right now, for the President to be effective in his next term he needs our increased support and he needs support in the Congress, where some sterling candidates, such as current Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio, challenger Elizabeth Warren in Massachusetts, and so many others, are fighting to make their constructive voices heard.
Right now, there is an ever increasing division of wealth in this country, with the benefits going more and more to the 1 percent. For me, President Obama is our best choice to begin to reverse this harmful development.
Right now, there is a fight going on to help make this a fairer and more equitable nation. For me, President Obama is our best choice to get us and keep us moving in the right direction.
Right now, we need a President who has a vision that includes all of our citizens, not just some, whether they are our devastated poor, our pressured middle class, and yes, the wealthy too; whether they are male or female, black, white, brown, or yellow, straight or gay, civilian or military.
Right now, there is a choice going on in America, and I’m happy that we live in a country where we all participate in that process. For me, President Obama is our best choice because he has a vision of the United States as a place where we are all in this together. We’re still living through very hard times but justice, equality and real freedom are not always a tide rushing in. They are more often a slow march, inch by inch, day after long day. I believe President Obama feels these days in his bones and has the strength to live them with us and to lead us to a country “where no one crowds you and no one goes it alone.”
That’s why I plan to be in Ohio and Iowa supporting the re-election of President Obama to lead our country for the next four years.

Never Underestimate Your Opponent: Lori Compas Poised to Make History in Wisconsin Recall Election

by Gregg Chadwick

"Nice people can be strong. And happy people can be smart."

Lori Compas in the Wisconsin State Journal

Lori Compas

As the June 5, 2012 recall elections creep closer in Wisconsin, important political realities are becoming evident. Governor Walker, his Wisconsin loves me bluster nevertheless, will most likely be recalled.

And Scott Fitzgerald, one of Governor Walker's key supporters in the Wisconsin State Senate, is scared for his political future and could be on the road to political irrelevance. Shockingly, in the June 5 recall election race for Wisconsin's 13th District, Fitzgerald is afraid to debate his opponent Lori Compas. Not only is Fitzgerald scared of Compas, he revealed himself to be an out of touch and misogynist candidate by saying that he is sure that Lori Compas is a puppet for her svengali husband as well as unions and protest groups.
"I don't for one minute believe she is the organizing force behind this whole thing." Fitzgerald said in the Mothers Day Edition of the Wisconsin State Journal .

When told of Fitzgerald’s statement, Compas was stunned.

“That is pretty insulting, but it does seem in keeping with his general views on women,” she said. “He doesn’t seem to have a lot of respect for them. That’s OK; he can keep
underestimating me.”

Compas said that if Fitzgerald really doubts she is a serious candidate, he should accept her invitation to debate. “I have challenged him to five debates,” she said. “If he thinks I can’t handle myself, he should come out and face me.”

Today she also released a video that pokes fun at Fitzgerald:

In the opinion of my Wisconsin friends and family, Lori Compas epitomizes the future of Wisconsin in her measured, inclusive, intelligent ideas. It seems that Fitzgerald has forgotten one of the most important axioms in politics: Never underestimate your opponent.

On June 5, 2012 expect a record turnout for the recall elections. And mark my words, this record crowd of voters young and old will be led by the women of Wisconsin.

A message from Lori about the upcoming primary election on May:

Don't fall for Scott Fitzgerald's tricks: The person running against me in the primary is a FAKE DEMOCRAT. His name is Gary Ellerman and he's a Fitzgerald supporter. This photo of him with Scott Fitzgerald is all over the internet -- it was taken at the 2012 Jefferson County Republicans' Lincoln Day Dinner. As you can see he has the GOP elephants on his nametag. And yet his name will be on the primary ballot with a D after it -- this is a lie, plain and simple. Please tell your friends.

Please Read A Letter From Lori Compas in Wisconsin

Dear Friend,

Outrageous. By now you've heard that the GOP has put up fake democrats to run against me and 3 other democratic challengers in the State Senate recall elections. This is yet another insult to Wisconsin's proud tradition of clean elections and we need to fight back.

My fake Democratic challenger is Gary Ellerman. He's a life-long Republican and founder of the group, "Walkers for Walker."

The Democratic Party of Wisconsin filed a complaint with the Government Accountability Board alleging that these Republicans are committing felony election fraud, by collecting nomination signatures under false pretenses. This morning I gave a statement to the Board.

"...If you allow a Republican to appear on the ballot as a Democrat, you’re saying that it’s acceptable to place false information on a ballot. This would undermine citizens’ confidence in this process specifically and in government in general. I think it’s telling that after all the talk of election fraud at the polls this past year, we’re now facing fraud on the ballots themselves."

However, moments ago the GAB announced they will allow these fraudulent candidates to remain on the ballot!
What's more disturbing than having to run in a primary against a fake candidate is the confusion this is causing among citizens in our district. When I was knocking on doors this weekend, I spoke to a woman who was confused and upset about all the news of these fake Democrats. She was concerned that there will not be an indicator of who the fake Democrat is and even went as far as asking if I had proof I was the real candidate.
Make no mistake, this is intentional chaos being created by my opponent and the the Wisconsin Republican Party.

It is more important then ever to get our message and the truth out to people in the district.  Can you donate $50 today to help us reach more voters?

Volunteers continue to knock door-to-door and speak with friends and neighbors, and as I continue to meet hundreds of folks one-on-one and in small groups across the 13th District.  But we must also spread our message in other ways.  We need to buy radio ads and send direct mail.  This is expensive but critical to reaching a broader audience. It's particularity important in order to reach more people rural areas where it is not realistic or efficient to send volunteers door-to-door.

Please help us reach as many voters as possible by giving a donation today! A donation of $100 will allow us to send a mailing to 300 people. Can you help us reach those people?

On Wisconsin!

P.S.  You can read my full statement to the GAB today here.

In a New York State of Mind

by Gregg Chadwick

Super Bowl Sunday has grown to become a secular holiday that rivals Thanksgiving in the United States. I just got off the phone with my brother and our New Jersey/New York roots run deep. Sporting events from this past weekend remind me how much I carry Spike Lee's and my Grandpa Chadwick's sporting allegiances with me. Jeremy Lin's astounding play for the New York Knicks basketball squad last night proved to be a harbinger for the New York Giants inspired play today. Tomorrow morning will be a bit sweeter as New Yorkers access their newspapers of choice. For me, memories of late Saturday nights in the Village buying Sunday's New York Times at a corner grocery never fail to bring a smile to my face.

As did Clint Eastwood's inspired role in this year's Chrysler ad. I'd recognize that silhouette anywhere. Doesn't look like Carmel's Hog's Breath to me though. I've been in a Noir mood myself with a studio full of new paintings and new ideas.

Chrysler Commercial: It's Halftime in America

In a subtle nod to union labor and the struggles in Wisconsin, a brief snippet of the protests against the soon to be deposed Governor Walker appears in the Chrysler ad.

Wisconsin's Capitol Dome glows on a cold Madison night as protestors gather to support union labor. Importantly, Clint Eastwood is also a union supporter as a member of the Screen Actors Guild.

Tonight, I salute my Meadowlands ties from Newark, to Bloomfield, to Montclair, to Asbury Park, to Manhattan, to Columbia, to NYU.

Congrats to New York - my city of Dreams

Tom Morello's New Song "Union Town" Roars in Solidarity With Workers Across the Globe

"Performing in Madison, Wisconsin and seeing 100,000 people in the streets demanding justice inspired me to record an album of union fighting songs. I've been a proud union man for 22 years and my mom was a union public high school teacher, so for me this fight is very personal. Unions are a crucial counterweight to the raw corporate greed that torpedoed our economy, threatens our environment and wants to strip away decades of social progress. From Cairo to Madison, workers are pushing back and tyrants are falling. Here's a soundtrack for our fight."
-Tom Morello

The full length UNION TOWN EP will be released digitally
May 17th with all proceeds going towards pro-union struggles.

On February 21st of this year, Tom Morello performed at the Capitol Square in Madison, Wisconsin in protest to an anti-union bill put forward by Governor Scott Walker. Morello explains in his editorial about the experience, “Frostbite and Freedom: Tom Morello on the Battle of Madison,” at RollingStone.com:

For days I had been following the exciting events in Cairo and across the Middle East. But when I turned on the television and saw 100,000 people marching through the streets of MADISON, WISCONSIN to protest an anti-union bill put forward by some schmuck named Governor Walker it caught my attention. I turned to my wife and said, "Honey, our boys are gonna grow up to be union men." She sighed and replied, "The Nightwatchman is needed. You should go."

And so The Nightwatchman went.

A nice lady at the airport looked at my guitar and politely asked, "Why are you going to Madison, young man?" I replied, "Because they're making history in Madison, ma'am. And I don't want to miss it."

The title track from the Union Town EP (full track listing below) is available now at SaveWorkers.org. On the heels of Union Town, Tom Morello, as The Nightwatchman, will release his third full length solo album, World Wide Rebel Songs, late Summer via New West Records.

Polish Trade Union Solidarnosc (Solidarity) Releases Letter in Support of Wisconsin Union Workers

To Public Service Workers in the State of Wisconsin

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

On behalf of the 700,000 members of the Polish Trade Union NSZZ “Solidarnosc” (Solidarity) I wish to express our solidarity and support for your struggle against the recent assault on trade unions and trade union rights unleashed by Governor Scott Walker.
We are witnessing yet another attempt of transferring the costs of the economic crisis and of the failed financial policies to working people and their families. As much as some adjustments are necessary, we can not and must not agree that the austerity measures are synonymous with union-busting practices, the elimination of bargaining rights and the reduction of social benefits and wages.

Dear friends, please rest assured that our thoughts are with you during your protest, as we truly do hope that your just fight for decent working and living conditions, for the workers’ rights will be successful.
Your victory is our victory as well.

In Solidarity,
Piotr Duda President

Green Bay Packer Great Charles Woodson Releases a Statement in Firm Support of Wisconsin Union Workers

STATEMENT FROM GREEN BAY PACKER CHARLES WOODSON IN
SUPPORT OF WORKING FAMILIES IN WISCONSIN

Last week I was proud when many of my current and former teammates announced their support for the working families fighting for their rights in Wisconsin. Today I am honored to join with them.

Thousands of dedicated Wisconsin public workers provide vital services for Wisconsin citizens. They are the teachers, nurses and child care workers who take care of us and our families. These hard working people are under an unprecedented attack to take away their basic rights to have a voice and collectively bargain at work.

It is an honor for me to play for the Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers and be a part of the Green Bay and Wisconsin communities. I am also honored as a member of the NFL Players Association to stand together with working families of Wisconsin and organized labor in their fight against this attempt to hurt them by targeting unions. I hope those leading the attack will sit down with Wisconsin's public workers and discuss the problems Wisconsin faces, so that together they can truly move Wisconsin forward.

--Charles Woodson, Green Bay Packers cornerback and one of the team’s elected representatives to the players union
