"Land of Hope and Dreams" from Springsteen on Broadway

Bruce Springsteen has pre-released an album from his Springsteen on Broadway engagement.
His album announcement is accompanied by a first taste of his Broadway recording: an acoustic version of his train metaphor song "Land of Hope and Dreams."
Lauren Onkey writes about the song on NPR Music:
"Land of Hope and Dreams" is the penultimate song of the Broadway show, an uplifting end to a night that features a lot of heartbreaking stories of characters — including Springsteen himself — who fall into isolation. Rooted in the gospel song "This Train" and The Impressions' 1965 gospel-soul hit "People Get Ready," "Land of Hope and Dreams" imagines a communal train where all are welcome — saints, sinners, whores, gamblers, thieves, lost souls, fools, kings, the brokenhearted — as it heads off to unknown future. It's classic Springsteen: grand, optimistic, spiritual and open-ended enough to be embraced by a big audience....
Springsteen has performed "Land of Hope and Dreams" often for benefit concerts and political rallies, including campaign stops for Barack Obama in the 2012 presidential election. It seems no coincidence, then, that he's released it on the eve of the midterm elections, and into the teeth of a violent and divisive time in American life. It's an assertion that we're all in this together.

Thank You Taylor Swift!

I’m writing this post about the upcoming midterm elections on November 6th, in which I’ll be voting in the state of Tennessee. In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now. I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country. I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG. I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, sickening and prevalent. I cannot vote for someone who will not be willing to fight for dignity for ALL Americans, no matter their skin color, gender or who they love. Running for Senate in the state of Tennessee is a woman named Marsha Blackburn. As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I cannot support Marsha Blackburn. Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me. She voted against equal pay for women. She voted against the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which attempts to protect women from domestic violence, stalking, and date rape. She believes businesses have a right to refuse service to gay couples. She also believes they should not have the right to marry. These are not MY Tennessee values. I will be voting for Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper for House of Representatives. Please, please educate yourself on the candidates running in your state and vote based on who most closely represents your values. For a lot of us, we may never find a candidate or party with whom we agree 100% on every issue, but we have to vote anyway. So many intelligent, thoughtful, self-possessed people have turned 18 in the past two years and now have the right and privilege to make their vote count. But first you need to register, which is quick and easy to do. October 9th is the LAST DAY to register to vote in the state of TN. Go to vote.org and you can find all the info. Happy Voting! 🗳😃🌈

For Leonard Cohen

by Gregg Chadwick

Gregg Chadwick
Tower of Song (Leonard Cohen)
6"x6" oil on panel 2018

On a recent trip to Montreal, I traversed the city in search of Leonard Cohen. From the old harbor to Mount Royal, traces of the poet and singer can be found by those who know where to look. Leonard's music and poetry provide clues about his life in Montreal and also offer hope to a darkened world. I put the finishing touches on my latest painting of Leonard Cohen on September 21st - the anniversary of Leonard's birth.  - “Tower of Song (Leonard Cohen)” will be exhibited at The Other Art Fair in Chicago from September 28-30, 2018.

The Monk's Road

Gregg Chadwick
The Monk's Road
36"x36" oil on panel 2018

I’m very pleased to let you know that my painting The Monk's Road has been chosen to be featured in the New This Week Collection on Saatchi Art's homepage.

The Monk's Road is part of an ongoing series of artworks about seeking peace and justice in a world in need of harmony.

In the mountains of Northern Thailand, rising above the city of Chiang Mai, peaks are often caught in an early morning sea of fog. Written as ทะเลหมอก in Thai, this mist often covers the summit of Doi Inthanon, Thailand’s highest peak. On the mountain slope- two Buddhist stupas, often referred to as chedis in Thailand, sit to honor the monarchs of Thailand. Known as Phra Mahathat Naphamethanidon and -Nophamethanidon, the chedis were named to reflect the power of the sky and the grace of the land.

My painting "The Monk's Road" is set in this mist shrouded landscape. Three Buddhist monks in saffron robes appear and then seem to merge into the air. The color of their robes is considered the color of illumination or satori – the highest wisdom.

Canção do meu sonho errante (Song of My Wandering Dream)

Eu tenho a alma errante... Boêmio, o meu sonho procura a carícia fugace, procura a glória mendaz e preclara. Sou como a veia fenícia ao largo, uma vela distante... Eu tenho a alma errante... E sinto uma estranha delícia em tudo que passa e não dura, em tudo que foge e não pára... 🎨 Gregg Chadwick . . . . . . . . #poesia #fotografia #arte #greggchadwick #poesia #arte #leitura #arte  #poem #poetry #poesie  #filosofia  #read #words #lectura #mots #lecture #poema #lettres #literature #artesplasticas #letras #poesía #litterature #literatura #libros #livre #libri #books  #livros #books #quotes #poeme  #lire

Honored that @poesiaaceuaberto has matched my painting Il Poeta di Milano (The Poet of Milan) with Menotti Del Picchia's poem Canção do meu sonho errante (Song of My Wandering Dream).

Translation from the Portuguese:

Song of my wandering dream Menotti Del Picchia I have the wandering soul and vague on earth to dream wonders ... Not for a moment! I look irriquely at my fickle dream and I am like the wings, the sails, the keels, the clouds, the wind ... I am like the restless things: the shaft who sings in the harp; the smoke that flies in the spire that rises from the logs; the longing the long slender coconut palms; the silver mat leaving a bow in the mirror of the rivers. I have a wandering soul ... Bohemian, my dream seeks the caress fugace, looking for the glory mendacious and preclear. I am like the Phoenician vein in the distance, a distant candle ... I have a wandering soul ... And I feel a strange delight in everything that passes and does not last, in everything that runs away and does not stop ... 🎨 Gregg Chadwick . . . . . . . . #poetry #photo #arte #greggchadwick #poesia #arte #learning #arte #poem #poetry #poesie #filosofia #read #words #lecture #mots #lecture #poema #lettres #literature #artesplasticas #letras # poetry #litterature #literatura #libros #libre #libri #books #books #books #quotes #poems #lire poesiaaceuaberto # historiadarte #scrittore #writer #pensions #words #culture #storiadellarte #porotes #quotes #alma #soul #histoiredelart #arthistory #trip #culture #versos #artist #museu #artwork #painting #painter #poete #writer #poeta #poet #ecrivain #philosophy

Between Worlds (Chicago)

Between Worlds (Chicago)

Sneak peek at new artwork to be featured at The Other Art Fair in Chicago -
My oil on linen painting Between Worlds (Chicago) was inspired by the industrial design of Raymond Loewy and the spirit of adventure that lies at the heart of the United States.
Two vehicles designed by Loewy stand side by side in a rail yard with the Chicago skyline behind. Glistening in black, the streamlined Pennsylvania Railroad “Broadway Limited” shares the scene with a gold 1938 Studebaker President.

PARKING: It truly is best to valet in The Cliff Village parking lot if it is open. It is $3 an hour and you are right where you need to be. If it is full, the next best bet is to turn on Legion (from PCH, it's the cross street right at the gallery) and take your first left on Glenneyre. On the left side you will see a parking deck, just a block or 2 down. It takes credit card and cash, but ONLY 1's and 5's. It is $4.50 an hour and you only need to pay until 9 pm. If you don't park in one of those, you can look for street/metered parking but it is very tough in the summer time. The earlier you arrive, the better luck you will have with parking.

Ted Lieu Helps Fund the Blue Wave

CONGRESSMAN LIEU RAISES MORE THAN $600,000 FOR 8 CALIFORNIA HOUSE CANDIDATES IN 24 HOURS

Los Angeles, CA – Today, Congressman Ted Lieu announced that the California Candidates Victory Fund has raised more than $600,000 in less than 24 hours. Lieu created the joint committee to support the eight most flippable House races in California. The funds were raised through two back-to-back events in Lieu's district.

“This is truly the most important midterm election in our lifetime. We must be successful this November in order to put an essential check on the corruption of the Trump Administration, to restore our health care system, and to increase wages” said Lieu.

“The amazing support we have received speaks to how deeply many Americans feel about what is happening in our country. I want to thank Lindsey Buckingham, Dayna Bochco, Billy Ray, Joyce Rey, and many others who supported the Victory Fund. The path to restoring sanity, accountability, and heck, even facts begins with taking back the House of Representatives.”

The next event for the CA Candidates Victory Fund is September 8 in Orange County. The Victory Fund is on track to hit a million dollars this quarter.

The California Candidates Victory Fund supports the following candidates:

Josh Harder CA-10
TJ Cox CA-21
Andrew Janz CA-22
Katie Hill CA-25
Gil Cisneros CA-39
Katie Porter CA-45
Harley Rouda CA-48
Mike Levin CA-49
###
Congressman Ted Lieu represents California's 33rd Congressional District in the House. Last year he was elected by his colleagues as a Vice Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). Last term, he was elected as President of the Democratic Freshman Class. Congressman Lieu is also a veteran who served on active duty.

Neruda's Path Through Silence

Gregg Chadwick
Still I Rise
40"x30" oil on linen 2017

"From all this, my friends, there arises an insight which the poet must learn through other people. There is no insurmountable solitude. All paths lead to the same goal: to convey to others what we are. And we must pass through solitude and difficulty, isolation and silence in order to reach forth to the enchanted place where we can dance our clumsy dance and sing our sorrowful song - but in this dance or in this song there are fulfilled the most ancient rites of our conscience in the awareness of being human and of believing in a common destiny."

Ted Lieu on the Treason Summit

REP LIEU STATEMENT ON TRUMP, PUTIN SUMMIT IN HELSINKI

July 16, 2018 Press Release

WASHINGTON -
Today, Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D-Los Angeles County) issued the following statement after President Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Finland.

"What Trump did today was utterly shameful, and a slap in the face to the professionals in the Department of Justice and our intelligence community. Today we watched a U.S. President offer total deference to a hostile foreign power while attacking U.S. institutions. By refusing to admit that Russia attacked our Democracy, or that Russia did anything wrong whatsoever, Trump is disturbingly regurgitating the Kremlin's talking points.

Having served on active duty, I feel nauseous thinking about Trump's statements. Despite how desensitized we’ve become to Trump’s remarkably un-presidential actions, today should stand out as obscene. What happens next will determine whether we allow our President to cede American ideals and authority to a foreign power. We’re now at a crossroads where we have to decide whether we’re willing to let blind partisan loyalty to Trump lead to the debasing of our country. After this appalling display, will the Republicans finally stand up for America?”

Are you nauseated by the statements of at the Putin summit? Disturbed? Angry? You can do something about it. Work like hell to flip Congress this November. Volunteer on campaigns. Donate money. Register people to vote. That's how we take our country back.
