Moments of Joy and Wonder at Barker Hangar

When an artlover visiting your booth is wearing the same skirt and bag as the figure in your gouache on paper painting, it is necessary to celebrate the moment! Thanks to my hard working, ebullient niece  @bavlnkabrand  who assisted me this week and at many other editions of  @theotherartfair , we were able to embrace this and so many other moments of joy and wonder at Barker Hangar. Artwork: Gregg Chadwick " On Broadway, Wired for Sound- Tower Theatre " 30"x22", gouache and ink on paper 2023 Venue: The Other Art Fair Los Angeles, Barker Hangar, September 28, 2025 "On Broadway, Wired for Sound" is a Best of the Fair pick by The Other Art Fair Global Fair Director Nicole Garton!  About the artwork: As the rain clears this evening, I am reminded how bright the city is the morning after a storm. In my new gouache and monotype on paper “On Broadway, Wired for Sound – Tower Theatre”, we find ourselves in DTLA as the morning light graces Our City of Angels. We ...

A Moment of Unexpected Self Reflection

Image
Erika at The Other Art Fair Los Angeles with a Drawing of Herself by Artist Gregg Chadwick Last night Erika  @_msmuse  had as her friend  @shadia_elise  described "a moment of unexpected self reflection" as she held in her hands a drawing that she had posed for in a figure drawing session in my studio building -  @studios_3026  Each Wednesday we gather as a group of artists and seekers and create observational drawings from morning to night. A number of framed drawings from these sessions are available at special TOAF prices during the fair. Heartfelt thanks to the number of new collectors who have purchased a drawing or two and to all the models that have worked so hard to help us create lasting art. Special deep thanks to Erika who is an exceptional person and a skilled and inspirational artist's model. And thank you  @shadia_elise  for the thoughts, conversation, and photo of Erika gazing at her drawn image! And so grateful to  @msu...

Moving Colors

Image
Gregg Chadwick Moving Colors 12"x12" oil on Legion Oil paper 2025  My oil on Legion Oil paper painting "Moving Colors" was inspired by the uplifting Pride Month events that I have taken part in along with my trans family members and queer friends. "Moving Colors" describes the colors of the LGBTQ community (as represented by the flags) and the idea of moving forward in a societal sense, advocating for change and progress. "Moving Colors"speaks to a moment in time that is both fleeting and part of a larger, ongoing movement that continually fights for equality for all. Hope, Love, Progress. Save the Date - "The Color of Time" at The Other Art Fair - September 25-28, 2025

Gregg Chadwick The Color of Time 48"x48" oil on linen 2025 New Paintings by Gregg Chadwick “Story is our only boat for sailing on the river of time.” - Ursula K. Le Guin "Your mind is more free. It can think, and is in the present. It can remember, and at once is in the past. It can imagine, and at once is in the future, in its own choice of all the possible futures.Your mind can travel through time!." - Eric Frank Russell "I find myself drawn to artworks, architectural spaces, and transportation devices that meld the past and present. While living in San Francisco, I lived a few blocks from the Main Library and watched as architect Gae Aulenti transformed the Beaux Arts building into the Asian Art Museum. Aulenti referred to the mix of past and present in her architectural renovations as a 'double ambiguity.' With sketchbook and camera in hand, I roam spaces that carry this double ambiguity- sketching details, pulling visual moments, and jotting down...

Opening Night at The Other Art Fair - March 30, 2023

Image
by Gregg Chadwick 🎧  @dublab  keeps the energy high at the turntables Last night the rain cleared just in time for the opening of the latest edition of The Other Art Fair at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. We strolled across the street from my studio at the 18th Street Arts Center and enjoyed seeing old friends and their artwork as well as meeting  artists for the first time and chatting with them about their art and sources of inspiration. Below, amidst their creations are photos of some of the new artists that we met.   Cortney Herron Los Angeles "As humans, we can be all over the place – thoughts and ideas swirling left and right. From the process to the technique, to the finished piece, it’s my artistic mission to capture those unique and special moments that make us feel connected to this abundant world. That unique moment in time where the reality of life – good, bad, and everything in between – is looking at you right in the face. And hopefully you begin ...
