There's No Thanksgiving Without Farm Workers

Image
As you are shopping, prepping and preparing your Thanksgiving meals, we'd like you to know a little more about the work behind every ingredient and the people doing that work. Here's a thread for everyone who wants to thank a farm worker this week. #WeFeedYou pic.twitter.com/XPpRfbOmiA — United Farm Workers (@UFWupdates) November 22, 2021 Mayita shared this photo taken in the sweet potato fields of California. Her youngest daughter wanted a picture in the fields to show she was proud of her mom being a farm worker and proud of how hard she worked to invest in her children’s opportunities. pic.twitter.com/97EU425Pmv — United Farm Workers (@UFWupdates) November 22, 2021 Here’s where we pause to remind you: we say #WeFeedYou because you’d have nothing on that Thanksgiving table without farm workers. Supporting us during the season of thanks and giving will help fund change all year long. DONATE HERE: https://t.co/dnHjgtuTOh pic.twitter.com/QWWZyo93GJ — Un...

Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving has always been a special time for the Biden family. And while I know this isn’t the way many of us hoped to spend the holiday, the small act of staying home is a gift to our fellow Americans. pic.twitter.com/4mHOEFIcjV — Joe Biden (@JoeBiden) November 26, 2020

Thankful for Diversity

Image
by Gregg Chadwick Hope that all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We touched base with many of you during the past week and got a good dose of holiday cheer.  When asked what I am thankful for - I of course start with family and friends but just as importantly I am thankful for the wonderful diversity found in my home state of California and across the US. Childhood memories are entwined in our holiday traditions. Often, I think of my Dad's parents and the time we took a road trip deep into the South during the Civil Rights era. At a road stop somewhere along I95, in Georgia I think, my Grandma Chadwick saw me staring at a crude racist, epithet scrawled on a sign. She put her arm around me and said to me "Don't mind about those words. Those words aren't true. God loves everyone one of us - equally." It was one of the first and one of the best lessons about civil rights and equality that I have ever learned.  Watch The Snowy Day 1. The...

Thanksgiving Message from Thich Nhat Hanh Thich Nhat Hanh at UCLA photo by Gregg Chadwick   A worthy repost from four years ago: “We like the idea of being thankful to the cosmos, to everything that offers itself to us as food. That is why in Plum Village we organize a Thanksgiving Day, and we address our thanks to four objects:  first of all to our father and our mother, who gave us life; to our teacher who gave us spiritual life and helped us know how to live in the here and now; we thank our friends who support us, especially in difficult moments, and we thank every being in the animal, vegetable and mineral world for our support and maintenance. So the Buddhists also celebrate Thanksgiving, with that kind of insight. And while we celebrate Thanksgiving, we relate to everyone who is there, and this is a very good practice so that we don’t cut ourselves off from reality. The feeling of gratitude can help us to remember and to cultivate the element of compassio...
