"Mirroring the complexity of human memory, the surfaces of my paintings are built by layering images of figures, vintage automobiles, and historic architecture through a tactile process of application, scraping, and pentimenti. A viewer once described my work as "time travel where the molecules are not quite sure where they belong." This observation aligns deeply with quantum theories suggesting that time exists as both a physical dimension and a layered, psychological reality. I invite viewers to engage in a process of slow looking, transforming these oil on linen canvases of Los Angeles landmarks into meditative spaces where the past, present, and future converge." - Gregg Chadwick

"Los Angeles: Streets, Structures & Stories, explores the city’s panoply of regional perspectives, focusing on how the city is experienced, remembered, and imagined through a language of neighborhood landmarks, personal histories, cultural traditions, and everyday moments. Using painting, photography, mixed media, and sculpture, the participating artists present a collective portrait of Los Angeles literally and lovingly shaped by its people. On view through July 25 in both places." - Shana Nys Dambrot, 13 Things LA

We're Very Well Read, It's Well Known
Dates: May 23 – September 6, 2026
Venue: Mural Conservancy of Los Angeles (MCLA) Gallery (Main Street, Downtown L.A.)

In downtown Los Angeles, my oil on wood painting Strength to Love (MLK) is featured in We're Very Well Read, It's Well Known. Curated by art critic and curator Mat Gleason, the exhibition is hosted by the Mural Conservancy of Los Angeles (MCLA) at their gallery space on Main Street. This exhibition features over 400 contemporary artists, each illustrating the title, thematic essence, or physical form of their favorite book on uniform, book-sized fine art panels.
This exhibition format aligns with a long-standing painterly interest in the physical book as a metaphor for cognitive travel and historical preservation. To me, bookstores and libraries are quiet portals to the imagination, where librarians and booksellers serve as dedicated custodians of cultural memory. Mat Gleason’s exhibition at the Mural Conservancy transforms the gallery space into a visual library, highlighting how public art, literacy, and historical preservation can foster community resilience across our shifting reality.

•    Details: An extraordinary group show featuring over 400 artists who have painted their favorite books on uniform, book-sized fine art panels, turning the gallery space into a massive, visual library. Gregg Chadwick’s oil on wood painting Strength to Love (MLK) is featured in the exhibition.

•    Gallery Hours: Saturday & Sunday, 12:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
•    Location: The Mural Conservancy of Los Angeles (MCLA), 260 S. Main Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012

US – Immigrant Diaspora in the USA
Dates: July 11, 2026 – August 22, 2026
Venue: Orange County Center for Contemporary Art (OCCCA)

Opening this July at the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art, my oil on linen painting “Generations (Generaciones)” was selected by curator Peter Frank to be included in his curatorial exploration of immigration in the United States. The bilingual title directly addresses the themes of lineage, migration, and cultural legacy that define the contemporary American experience.
By utilizing an underpainting layered with translucent glazes, I aim to depict my subjects in a state of quiet dignity, suggesting that personal identity is shaped by both ancestral memories and modern urban environments.

• Details: Gregg Chadwick’s painting, Generations (Generaciones), was selected by renowned curator Peter Frank as one of 108 pieces featured in this important group exhibition.
• Location: Orange County Center for Contemporary Art (OCCCA), 117 North Sycamore Street, Santa Ana, CA 92701 (Located in the heart of the Santa Ana Artists Village)

New Interview with Gregg Chadwick

in

Voyage LA

It was an honor and a pleasure to write this feature on my life and art for Voyage LA for their Local Stories series.

In the interview, I had the opportunity to reflect on my journey as an artist, starting from my childhood memories and how my father's service as a Marine shaped my path toward creating art. I also shared some deeply personal stories about my late mother, whose vibrant spirit and enduring influence continue to weave their way through my artwork.

You can read the full interview in Voyage LA to learn more about these exhibitions, my artistic process, and the stories behind the canvas.
